Baking classes that are really rather close to Stratford Upon Avon
Want your loaves to be loaftastic? Then you've come to the right place! I run bread making courses in the Warwickshire town of Kenilworth (about half an hour down the A46 from Stratford) on the third Sunday of each month. Whether it's a treat for yourself or a gift for someone special, everyone leaves with the skills and recipes necessary to get cracking and a load of freshly baked goods to take home at the end of the day. It’s so close your Chelsea buns will still be warm by the time you get home.
You don't need any experience of baking, in fact the courses are aimed at either complete beginners or those who have had, shall we diplomatically say, "limited success".
Introduction to bread making course
Your loaftastic day begins at 10am in the cosy bakery of Crustum in the charming Warwickshire town of Kenilworth and while baking is relaxed we'll be very productive. You'll start off making a plain white dough to get the basics right and a feel for good dough. From this you'll make three products: a white loaf, a savoury Red Bread and a pizza for your lunch. In-between all this we'll slip in a more technically challenging dough to make a focaccia. If you haven't drunk too much beer with your lunch then in the afternoon you'll help make a batch of enriched Chelsea bun dough which we'll use to assemble your masterpiece - a box of buns hot from the oven for you to tootle home with and enjoy amongst fellow carbohydrate fans on the settee.
Cost: £95 per person; full day 10am until ~4.30pm
Croissants and Danish course
Your loaftastic day begins at 10am and we’ll aim to finish by about 2.30pm. You’ll be learning how to make dough, shape and bake croissants on this course. We will also make two unusual Scandi pastries that, if you’ve ever seen for sale in the UK, I will eat my head! You’ll go home with an armful of baked, sweet goodies and a slab of croissant dough you’ve made so you can bake even more at home the day after. We’ll somehow manage to find time for elevenses and a light lunch too. Feet up on the settee in the evening.
Cost: £65per person; long half-day 10am until ~2.30pm
Want to buy someone a lovely gift but don't want to commit them to a date yet? Nae problem! I have some lovely gift vouchers for you - a nice thing to be able to give on a special occasion. The lucky recipient can then contact me to arrange their loaftastic day out baking. As they say in the card shops - "the reverse has been left blank for your own message".
If you can provide between three and six, preferably lovely, people who would like to do a course together then it may be possible to arrange a course on another day just for you lucky few! It might also be possible to tweak the course content to make it more appropriate to your particular requirements. Please fill in the contact form and give me a couple of dates you would prefer so I can get the ball rolling.
